Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time temporary Dispatcher to join our team at the University of Guelph. As a Dispatcher, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Intake and respond to emergency calls and requests for assistance from the public, staff, and students
  • Dispatch appropriate response teams, including police, fire prevention, and first response personnel
  • Provide reception services for the Campus Community Police, including in-person and telephone inquiries
  • Monitor and respond to multi-alarm computer system alerts, including fire alarms, building supervisory alarms, and personal safety alarms
  • Document events and actions within the internal records management system software
  • Communicate with campus emergency personnel via two-way radio or phone
  • Liaise with the Guelph Police Service dispatch and records units as needed
  • Provide clerical support and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Completion of secondary school education
  • Ability to successfully complete the Emergency Services Communications program (internal training program)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent keyboarding, data entry, and computer skills with accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, Email, and other related software
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Demonstrated good judgment, accurate recall, and decision-making under stressful situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays
Working Conditions

This position involves shift work, rotating between days and nights, and requires work on weekends and statutory holidays. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
