Youth and Education Program Manager

This role involves coordinating the Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council (PAYC) meetings, serving as a liaison between BCAAFC staff and PAYC, and working with other team members to ensure the meaningful inclusion of PAYC in BCAAFC business. The ideal candidate will have substantial work experience in youth-driven projects and strong leadership skills to guide the Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate updates to the terms of reference for the Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council.
- Co-chair and steward PAYC meetings, providing mentorship and guidance to council members.
- Support PAYC members in planning meeting agendas and ensuring their effective participation in the decision-making process.
- Serve as a liaison between BCAAFC staff and PAYC, facilitating communication and collaboration between the two entities.
- Coordinate travel and accommodations for PAYC members, process honoraria and travel claims, and manage budgets on behalf of the council.
- Provide orientation and onboarding to new PAYC members, support their recruitment, and foster a sense of community within the council.
- Collaborate with the BCAAFC communications department to promote and extend the reach of PAYC, highlighting its projects and initiatives.
- Offer conflict management support to PAYC members as needed, fostering a positive and inclusive environment within the council.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide staff support at the Gathering Our Voices (GOV) youth leadership conference hosted by BCAAFC annually, ensuring that PAYC plays a key role in its planning and execution.
- Manage all aspects of two educational funding programs, including intake of new applicants, reviewing and approving applications, overseeing data collection and management, creating and managing program budgets, tracking scholarship disbursements, and promoting the funds to eligible individuals.
Requirements
- Completion of a college or university program in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Youth Development, Community Development, Education, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Substantial work experience in youth-driven projects, preferably with a focus on Indigenous communities and service organizations.
- Strong leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency in budget management are essential for this role.
- Proficiency in PC software, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel), and ability to collect and analyze data to track program outcomes and generate reports for funders and stakeholders are also required.
