Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Mountain Equipment Company Full time

About MEC

MEC is more than a store; it's a hub for the outdoor community, connecting people through our stores, online channels, and events.

We're an equal opportunity employer, proud to work with people of all abilities, backgrounds, and identities. We welcome applications from individuals with disabilities and will do our best to accommodate them during the hiring process.

Your Role

If you enjoy working in an inclusive team that connects people with quality products for active outdoor lives, then this could be the perfect fit for you. As a department head, you'll inspire members to be part of the MEC community through exceptional gear, product knowledge, and member service.

You'll have the flexibility to work various shifts, from Sunday to Saturday, and will be supported in your role by a collaborative team. Bonus points if you have retail or customer service experience

The Department

Our Department Managers focus on four key areas:

  1. Operational Excellence: Extensive experience in retail sales, store operations, and driving results is essential. You should also have a talent for succession planning and people management.
  2. Talent Development: You'll be responsible for recruiting people who naturally bring enthusiasm to their work. Ensure staff are properly trained in procedures and processes, and help coach them in their roles. You'll model what 'great' looks like and learn from your Store Manager how to motivate the team to deliver exceptional service.
  3. Leadership: You'll be creative in motivating your team to deliver exceptional service. Communicate regularly with the team to ensure they understand performance targets and expectations. You'll hold the team accountable and ensure good communication between team members, Store Managers, and other locations.
  4. Culture and Well-being: Establish a culture of feedback within your store where team members thrive. Genuinely care for the well-being of your staff, offering flexibility when possible, and maintaining consistent store conditions and staff morale.

What Great Looks Like

As a Department Head, you'll inspire members to be part of the MEC community. Deliver exceptional gear, product knowledge, member service, clinics, and events that showcase the MEC experience.
