Job Summary
The Survey Crew Chief is a key member of our team at the Manitoba Government, responsible for overseeing advanced surveying functions and ensuring the highest standards of survey operations are maintained. This role requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and verify secondary and horizontal and vertical control.
- Coordinate the collection and ensure the accurate documentation of survey data.
- Conduct searches of relevant survey information (plans, profiles, benchmarks, etc.).
- Provide daily and weekly consultation on project status and operations.
- Train and mentor survey staff.
Requirements
- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Department Level 3 training courses.
- Directly related experience in all aspects of survey (Preliminary, Construction, Bridge, Railway, Hydraulic Assessment, Culvert Replacement, and DTM).
- Knowledge of current surveying policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Effective leadership skills.
- Effective interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
Working Conditions
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence without restrictions.
- Must be able to perform the work mainly in the field in both winter and summer.
- Must be physically capable of performing the required duties of the position.
- Must be able to travel within the province to worksites by ground, water, or air transportation.
- Must be able to work extended hours, including weekday evenings and weekends, with overnight stays.
- Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment.
