Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care by performing specimen collection, preparation, and testing, as well as related clerical and laboratory support functions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specimen collection, preparation, and testing under the supervision of the Chief Technologist or designate.
  • Conduct inpatient and/or outpatient Electro Cardiogram (ECG) testing, and/or Holter monitor testing as required.
  • Explain test procedures to patients and families.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.

Work Environment:

Prince Rupert Regional Hospital is a 24-bed facility that sees an average of 22,000 ER visits per year. It is a fully equipped facility with Medical Imaging, Laboratory, ICU, ER, and Maternity services. Our hospital offers a wide range of services, including Acute Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Department, Extended Care, Pediatrics, Radiology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology. We also offer additional services such as Diabetes Education, Healthy Heart, and Rehabilitation, Podiatry, Orthopedics, and visiting specialists.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Grade 12 education, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program, and one year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. You will also need to have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, deal with others effectively, and have the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Additionally, you will need to be able to organize work, operate related equipment, and type at 25 wpm.
