Financial Reporting and Compliance

This role is responsible for the preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements and analyses for ministry team leaders and committees, including balance sheet reconciliations and budget variance reports. The incumbent will also support the annual audit of our financial statements, including the year-end supporting package and requests by auditors.

  • Prepare financial statements, analyses, and other reports for various stakeholders
  • Support the annual operating budget process, including budget preparation, review, and management approval
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, CRA guidelines for charities, and other regulatory requirements

Day-to-day Accounting

The Financial Reporting Specialist will be responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions, including corresponding journal entries, for accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and compilation of fiscal data. This includes ensuring all donations are recorded in the donor management system and in the accounting system, and performing regular reconciliations.

  • Responsible for all day-to-day accounting functions, including AP and Revenue processing

Payroll

The incumbent will perform accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll runs for all employees, prepare payroll journal entries, implement changes in pay as required, and prepare payroll-related remittances, including WSIB and pension contributions.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably in a charitable organization or not-for-profit environment
  • Proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks
  • Excellent communication skills, able to write correspondence in a professional manner
  • Aware and knowledgeable of secure internet usage and ability to identify scams and phishing attacks
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team devoted to customer service
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
