Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Land Use Planning Strategist to join our team at the Government of Northwest Territories. This is a full-time position that offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic framework for land use planning throughout the Northwest Territories. This includes ensuring that Land Use Plans in the NWT meet the often-conflicting needs of land users throughout the region.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in land use planning, with a strong understanding of Departmental Acts, Agreements, frameworks, strategies, and policies related to the management, sustainable use, and administration of NWT public lands.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement strategic plans for land use planning, ensuring alignment with Departmental objectives and goals.
  2. Provide expert advice and guidance on land use planning matters, including policy development, evaluation, and negotiation.
  3. Collaborate with stakeholders, including co-delivery partners, Indigenous communities, and other Northerners, to ensure effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  4. Analyze data and information to inform decision-making, including socio-economic research and analysis, strategic analysis, and policy development.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A graduate degree in a relevant field, such as Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, Economics, or similar discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in planning or legislative and policy analysis and development, and project management, including supervising the work of others.
  • Strong knowledge of the history, culture, political, and economic aspirations of Indigenous people and other Northerners, as well as land rights and land use.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and communicate complex information effectively.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience. In addition to your salary, you will receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a pension plan.
