Clinical Nurse Specialist

Northern Health Authority is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team in the Intensive Care Unit department at Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre. The successful candidate will have a passion for nursing and the ability to provide compassionate patient care.
Under the direction of the Manager, Med/Surg; ICU; In-patients, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients presenting in the ICU Unit. The team provides care to patients in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Northern Health Critical Care Program
• The program provides training and professional development opportunities for Registered Nurses in the ICU setting.
• Northern Health provides support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required.
• Successful candidates may be required to complete pre-requisite courses through part-time distance education, on their own time, prior to assuming this position.
• Learners should expect to make a 4 – 6 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning.
• Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program.
• Flexibility for practicums is necessary.
• Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department.
• Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
• Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided.
Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:00 to 16:00
Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Some more highlights about the hospital:
• Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms, plus a procedure room.
• Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis.
• Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds).
• 3 Intensive care units.
• Minor surgeries.
• 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum Fort St. John also has the Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic which serve the community.
Fort St. John is known as "The Energetic City," which reflects the large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. Overlooking the Peace River, the town of Fort St John is located above the Peace River Valley and serves as the capital of the Peace River district. The population of Fort St. John is over 21,400 but it services an area of approximately 70,000. The community is the hub of the Northeast with a cultural centre and library, theatre, and art space. There are seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one secondary school. There is also a Northern Lights College campus. • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively.
• Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to initiate and work independently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of special procedures and techniques such as infusions of medications.
• Demonstrated competency in using equipment and supplies in such as Cardiac Monitors, Blood Pressure and Oxygen Saturation Monitors and
