Job Summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled Stationary Engineer 3rd Class to join our facilities operations team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, preventive and breakdown maintenance of the heating, cooling and related plant equipment operated at all campus locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support strategic planning efforts addressing stewardship responsibilities and long-term sustainability of the University's campus, facilities and infrastructure.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners and high purity water treatment systems, air compressors, ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Operate and monitor the utility plants, building automation, fire systems and elevator services.
  • Inspect and maintain building HVAC, mechanical and plumbing system components.
  • Respond to emergency calls of various types such as fire alarms.
  • Create reports of equipment conditions and requisition materials.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent and a minimum of an Ontario 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certificate.
  • Minimum of two years recent experience as an Ontario-certified 3rd Class Operating Engineer.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of oil and gas fired boilers, chillers, water softeners, air compressors and ammonia based refrigeration units and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiarity with boiler control and building automation systems.
  • Valid Ontario class 'G' driver's license or equivalent.
