Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services department is seeking a skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to assist with the delivery of a Therapeutic Recreation / Life Skills Day Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with all functions relating to the delivery of the Therapeutic Recreation / Life Skills Day Program.
  • Work with Adults with Disabilities, providing support and guidance to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop and implement program activities and services.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive experience for program participants and their families.
Requirements
  • Completion of a college diploma in a related field or equivalent experience working with Special Needs clients.
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working with Adults with Disabilities.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates.
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate.
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
  • Ergonomic Lifts and Transfers training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comfort level and expertise working with different disability groups (physical, developmental, etc.).
  • Knowledge of legislation protecting the rights of special needs clients and populations.
  • Client care skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa and Parks & Recreation Branch policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
