Instructor, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
Job Summary:The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructor, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Recreation and Cultural Services department, you will be responsible for leading therapeutic recreation programs for adults with disabilities, ensuring a customer-centric and efficient service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:- Direct therapeutic recreation day programs for adults with disabilities, including all functions relating to program delivery and support from community partners.
- Supervise staff and volunteers, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for participants.
- Develop and implement program plans, ensuring alignment with City of Ottawa and Parks & Recreation Branch policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with community partners to ensure seamless program delivery and participant support.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Post-secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with adults with physical, developmental, sensory, and other types of disabilities in a management or supervisory capacity.
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates, Crisis Prevention/Intervention training, Behaviour Management training, Alternative Communication Systems (ASL) training, AODA Customer Service/IASR Training, and Ergonomic Lifts and Transfers training.
Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only, or bilingual competencies.
Police Record Check:The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.
