Primary Care Physician for Underserved Populations

We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative Family Practitioner to join our team at Island Health, providing primary care services to underserved populations in Downtown Victoria.
The successful candidate will work with refugees and newcomers to Canada, providing full-service primary care, including federally-mandated Health Assessments. The practice will involve working with children, adolescents, and adults, with a focus on mental health and trauma-informed care.
As a member of our Primary Care Network team, you will have the support of Mental Health Workers and Pharmacists, as well as the opportunity to work collaboratively with a Refugee/Newcomer NP at the Health Care on Yates Clinic.
We are looking for a physician who shares our philosophy of trauma-informed, culturally-safe care and is interested in innovation in primary care. The ideal candidate will be able to work part-time or share a position, and will have a strong ability to work as a team with Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, and Allied Health Professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide primary care services to refugees and newcomers to Canada
- Conduct federally-mandated Health Assessments
- Work collaboratively with Mental Health Workers and Pharmacists
- Develop and implement trauma-informed care plans
- Participate in team-based care with Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, and Allied Health Professionals
Requirements:
- Family Medicine certification
- Experience working with underserved populations
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and cultural safety
- Ability to work part-time or share a position
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
