Job Summary

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated International Student Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our International Student Services department, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal success of our international students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional support and guidance to international students on various aspects of their academic and personal life, including cultural adjustment, study and work visas, health and mental care, and more.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and overseas agents to ensure a smooth transition to university life.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to promote cultural understanding and awareness among students, staff, and the broader community.
  • Work closely with university departments and external agencies to provide comprehensive support services to international students.
  • Conduct workshops, information sessions, and other events to promote student success and well-being.
  • Stay up-to-date with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) regulations and policies to provide accurate advice and guidance to students.
Requirements
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or four years of post-secondary education.
  • Membership in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants as a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA).
  • Four years of related experience, including a minimum of two years in a client-centred, multi-cultural environment and a minimum of two years working or studying in a foreign country where the specified language is the primary language of communication.
  • Experience with IRCC regulations and policies pertaining to international students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in a foreign language (Vietnamese).
  • Strong cross-cultural communications skills.
  • Understanding of the Canadian post-secondary education system and environment.
  • Understanding of cultural adjustment issues.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, social media, and digital platforms.
Working Conditions
  • Working in close proximity with students, parents, host families, stakeholders, and overseas clients in office and public settings.
  • Local and international travel.
