Your Opportunity:

As a Psychiatric Aide with Alberta Health Services, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures.

Description:

You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, as well as assist with organized activities or programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe and report on a patient's mood, health, well-being, and maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals.
  • Assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Support the development of individual treatment plans, assisting patients in meeting identified goals and support patients with activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, vital signs, behavior mapping, participating in recreation, leisure, and therapy group/individual activities.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer.
  • Minimum 1 year of working in Addictions and Mental Health (acute or community).
  • Understanding of mental health disorders.
  • Understanding and application of trauma-informed care.
  • Understanding and application of patient and family-centered care.
  • Effective and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain a respectful and professional relationship with team members, patients, family, and all stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
  • Post-secondary education.
  • NVCI.
