Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Power Engineer at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers, electrical power generating equipment, and auxiliary equipment associated with a high-pressure steam plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the operation of steam boilers, electrical power generating equipment, and auxiliary equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Conduct tests and record readings for standby emergency generators and fire alarm systems
  • Work independently with a high degree of initiative and prioritize workloads to manage deadlines
  • Collaborate with the Chief Power Engineer to ensure smooth operation of the plant
Requirements
  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate recognized by the Office of the Fire Commissioner
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Ability to work shift work, including weekends and stat holidays
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with computerized building control systems
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of physical activity, including medium/heavy lifting, climbing ladders/stairs, walking, crouching, and kneeling. The candidate must also be able to work in a restricted and/or confined space.
