Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Power Engineer to join our team at the Manitoba Government. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers, electrical power generating equipment, and auxiliary equipment associated with a high-pressure steam plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the operation of steam boilers, electrical power generating equipment, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Power Engineer to develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other team members as needed.
Requirements:
  • 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate recognized by the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to work shift work, including weekends and stat holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating and working in a Power Plant (4th, 3rd, and/or 2nd Class Power Plants).
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, general equipment repairs, and completing work orders.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, procedures, and relevant safety policies and legislation.
