Ideal Candidate Profile:

We are on the lookout for our inaugural Security Research Engineer to spearhead Operant's cloud-native threat research initiatives, identifying significant security vulnerabilities within modern application frameworks, including those leveraging AI. If you are passionate about being a foundational engineer at a startup set to redefine cloud application security solutions, we would be eager to connect with you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design experiments and proof of concepts that reveal and illustrate critical security vulnerabilities in cloud-native environments and propose effective remedies.
  • Document research outcomes and engage with the wider team to share insights.
  • Actively participate in open-source initiatives within Operant, such as Secops-Chaos, a tool developed by Operant to implement chaos engineering principles in cloud-native security.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape the future product roadmap based on significant security research insights.
  • Promote and disseminate research findings through technical blogs, conferences, and community forums.
  • Review and contribute to security best practices integrated within Operant's offerings.
  • Build and lead a security research team at Operant as the organization grows.
  • Operate autonomously while making informed decisions amidst uncertainties.
  • Work collaboratively with Operant's founding team and other engineering leaders.
  • Take a proactive interest in understanding genuine customer challenges while conducting technical research.
Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a security research or engineering capacity, engaging in hands-on activities within a dynamic engineering organization.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience in building teams focused on cloud-native security.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure, and networking layers L3-L7+ is essential.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, WebAssembly, and Golang is advantageous.
  • In-depth knowledge of Operating Systems and Network Security principles.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects in the cloud-native domain is preferred.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • A degree (BS, MS, or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering with a focus on Cybersecurity, or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with ML, LLM, and AI application frameworks.
