Position: Cloud Native Security Research Engineer

We are dedicated to integrating cutting-edge advancements from Operating Systems, Distributed Systems, and AI into the realm of cloud-native security, crafting a solution that meets the escalating complexity and vast scale of today's cloud-native applications.

As a recognized vendor in prominent industry reports, including Gartner's market guide for API Protection and Kubernetes Runtime Security, as well as Forrester's Zero Trust landscape, we are poised for significant growth in this dynamic market.

In this role, you will be the inaugural Security Research Engineer, tasked with establishing Operant's cloud-native threat research initiatives aimed at identifying critical security vulnerabilities within modern application frameworks, including those utilizing AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute experiments and proof of concepts to identify and illustrate significant security issues in cloud-native settings and propose effective solutions.
  • Document research outcomes and communicate findings with the broader team.
  • Contribute actively to open-source projects, such as Secops-Chaos, a tool developed by Operant to implement chaos engineering principles in cloud-native security.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape the future product roadmap based on essential security research insights.
  • Share and promote research through technical blogs, conferences, and industry forums.
  • Review and enhance security best practices within Operant's offerings.
  • Over time, build and lead a dedicated security research team at Operant.
  • Engage with real customer challenges while conducting technical research.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a security research or engineering capacity, with hands-on involvement in a fast-paced engineering organization.
  • Approximately 2+ years of leadership experience in developing teams within the cloud-native security domain.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure, and networking layers L3-L7+ is essential.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, WebAssembly, and Golang is preferred.
  • Expertise in Operating Systems and Network Security fundamentals.
  • Experience contributing to open-source community projects in the cloud-native ecosystem is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering with a focus on Cybersecurity, or equivalent industry experience is preferred.
