Job Summary

The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is seeking an experienced Executive Director of Data Strategy to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive data management strategy across the organization. This role will be responsible for aligning data management activities with business objectives, ensuring data quality, and driving data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Data Strategy: Design and implement a data management strategy that aligns with business objectives and ensures data quality.
  • Lead Data Management Team: Manage a team of data management professionals, providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Business Stakeholders: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure data delivery meets business needs.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Emerging Technologies: Stay informed of emerging technologies and best practices in data management, ensuring the organization remains competitive.
  • Ensure Data Governance: Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in data management, leadership, team management, technology, risk, and budget management.
  • Extensive experience in data management and delivery, particularly within the financial services industry.
  • Subject matter expertise in data lifecycle management, data architecture, and implementing data delivery frameworks.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills to analyze project risks, business strategies, and emerging technology trends.
  • Judgment and decision-making skills to oversee complex, high-stakes technology operations.
  • Budget management skills to manage operating budgets of $2-5 million and capital budgets of approximately $5 million.
  • People-oriented leadership skills to lead teams and manage organizational change.
  • Collaborative partner skills to build strong relationships with colleagues and external partners.
  • Compliance-oriented skills to ensure data management practices comply with regulatory requirements.
