Mechanic II Position

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic II to join our team in maintaining a sustainable provincial infrastructure for Nova Scotians.
The successful candidate will have the right tools to do the job and a clean workspace. There is nothing more important than their safety.
The Fleet Services Division is pivotal in ensuring Public Work's Fleet is running smoothly, ensuring the safety of our provincial road network.
As a Mechanic II, the successful candidate will diagnose equipment failure, repair, rebuild, and adjust a variety of government mobile machinery and equipment used to perform road maintenance activities for both summer and winter operations.
The candidate will use specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work, assist with field repairs as required, and other related duties as required to complete equipment repairs, modifications, and/or preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose equipment failure and perform repairs, rebuilds, and adjustments on government mobile machinery and equipment.
- Use specialized tools and equipment located at a government facility designed and equipped for mechanical work.
- Assist with field repairs as required and complete other related duties to ensure the safe operation of Public Work's Fleet.
The successful candidate will have completed high school and hold a Provincial Certificate of Qualification in the Truck and Transport Trade, plus five (5) years of diversified mechanical experience.
A valid Nova Scotia driver's license with Air Brakes and an acceptable driving record are also required.
A Provincial Certificate of Qualification in Heavy Duty Equipment and Air Conditioning Certification are desirable.
Knowledge of computer-controlled diagnostic technology and computer competency are considered assets, as is successful completion of training and knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, First Aid, and WHMIS.
