Job Overview

The Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a 3rd Class Power Engineer to ensure the safe and efficient operation of chiller plants, high pressure steam equipment, pressure vessels, water treatment programs, and related auxiliary equipment at their assigned site.

About the Role

This position performs various tasks under the supervision of the Chief Power Engineer, including completing rounds of building mechanical rooms and inspecting mechanical systems such as medical gas/air/vacuum systems, air handling units, heating systems, and fire water pumping systems. The 3rd Class Power Engineer is also responsible for responding to silent hour emergency calls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe and continuous operation of chiller plants, high pressure steam equipment, pressure vessels, water treatment programs, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform regular inspections of building mechanical systems, including medical gas/air/vacuum systems, air handling units, heating systems, and fire water pumping systems.
  • Respond to silent hour emergency calls.
Requirements
  • Designation as a Standardized Nova Scotia 3rd Class Power engineer.
  • One year experience in a high pressure plant (steam) and associated equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the operation of boilers, chillers, HVAC, and other electrical machinery.
  • Strong safety track record and mindset.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

This permanent, part-time (20%) position offers a competitive salary range of $29.65 - $30.44 per hour. Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
