Senior Technical Linux Systems Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Linux Systems Specialist to join our Managed Services group in the Toronto office. This is a full-time hybrid position that requires strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the day-to-day operational support and service delivery of the IT Infrastructure by responding to incidents and changes through the internal ticketing system.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions based on infrastructure strategy, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and maintain IT infrastructure systems to ensure they remain operational and secure, with a focus on Linux-based solutions.
  • Perform administration on user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage assignment in accordance with best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify areas of continuous service improvement and contribute to ongoing projects as assigned, collaborating with the infrastructure team to drive innovation and efficiency.
  • Train and mentor junior staff when needed, providing guidance and support to ensure their success in their roles.
  • Provide after-hours support based on the scheduled rotation or as needed, demonstrating a commitment to delivering exceptional service to our customers.
Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS or Ubuntu, with expertise in setting up and managing Linux-based solutions on-prem and on cloud infrastructure.
  • Expertise in security concepts, including firewalls, VPCs, encryption, and identity and access controls, with experience in monitoring and logging tools like Manage Engine, Nagios, or IBM Cloud Monitoring.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cloud infrastructure, networking, and applications running on Linux, with strong communication skills to interact with clients and provide timely support and solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and learn new tools and techniques to stay updated in the rapidly changing cloud/on-prem infrastructure landscape, with knowledge of configuration management tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet for managing and provisioning infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • University degree/diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or an equivalent education program, with Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) - Linux administration certification.
  • Knowledge of the IBM PowerVS platform, experience with automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform, and experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python.
  • Experience with an ITSM ticketing tool – Service Now, with strong verbal communication skills and excellent technical writing skills.
