As a Senior Buyer, you will contribute to our team by:

  • purchasing materials/assets and services in accordance with policies and procedures using cost-effective approaches
  • identifying and selecting vendors to meet criteria such as specification, price, quantity, quality, safety, and delivery date
  • developing general commodity knowledge through working with procurement subject matter experts, suppliers, and acquisition assignments
  • creating and issuing appropriate purchase documents; administering these agreements throughout their term
  • expediting and following up on purchasing process with suppliers to schedule deliveries and resolve material discrepancies
  • ensuring that all purchases are conducted ethically and legally in accordance with company policies
  • coordinating with suppliers, internal departments, and project customers
  • preparing RFQs and analyzing quotations; interpreting information requests and recognizing sources of information required to respond
  • providing feedback on supplier base to ensure best value is achieved
  • searching the marketplace for innovative products, technologies, services, and processes

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., business, supply chain management, logistics)
  • Working towards a procurement and equipment designation or certification considered an asset
  • 4 years of progressive experience in supply chain / procurement preferred
  • General construction knowledge; understands specifications, methods, and procedures
  • Strong verbal skills and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used construction materials, permanent/nonpermanent materials, services, tools, and equipment
  • Adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing business environment
  • Basic exposure to applicable laws and regulations related to procurement activities
  • Basic understanding of supply chain process, project life cycle, procurement best practices, and risk
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong computer literacy; experience using Microsoft Office software
