Job Title: Building Department Director

Destinationone Consulting is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Department Director to join our team. As a Building Department Director, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the building department to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the building department, including supervising staff, overseeing departmental operations, and ensuring effective performance.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Oversee the review and approval of building plans, permits, and inspections to ensure adherence to local codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate with other municipal departments, agencies, and stakeholders to address and resolve building-related issues and facilitate project approvals.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Provide leadership and support to department staff, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Prepare and present reports, budgets, and recommendations to municipal authorities and stakeholders regarding building department activities and initiatives.
  • Stay informed about changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure departmental practices are up-to-date and effective.
Requirements:
  • Relevant certification or diploma in Building Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a management or leadership role within a building department or related area, with a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with experience in managing teams and departmental operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex building and regulatory issues.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with municipal officials, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategic plans to improve departmental performance.
