Job Summary

destinationone Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Building Department Manager/Director to oversee and manage the operations of the building department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards, as well as excellent leadership and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Department Leadership: Lead and manage the building department, including supervising staff, overseeing departmental operations, and ensuring effective performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Develop, implement, and enforce policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Project Management: Oversee the review and approval of building plans, permits, and inspections to ensure adherence to local codes and regulations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with other municipal departments, agencies, and stakeholders to address and resolve building-related issues and facilitate project approvals.
  • Performance Management: Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Staff Development: Provide leadership and support to department staff, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present reports, budgets, and recommendations to municipal authorities and stakeholders regarding building department activities and initiatives.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure departmental practices are up-to-date and effective.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Relevant certification or diploma in Building Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience and Skills: Proven experience in a management or leadership role within a building department or related area, with a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
  • Leadership and Organizational Skills: Excellent leadership and organizational skills with experience in managing teams and departmental operations.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex building and regulatory issues.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills for interacting with municipal officials, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Policy Development: Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategic plans to improve departmental performance.
