We are seeking an experienced Workplace Safety Professional to join our team at DMC Recruitment.
About the Role
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a real impact on workplace safety. As a Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our clients' team, overseeing and implementing safety protocols in line with company standards, WorkSafeBC regulations, and the Environmental Code of Practice.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this role is estimated to be $34-$40 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits, career trajectory opportunities, RRSP matching, and a flexible schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and audit company safety measures to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Actively promote and maintain safety standards across the organization.
- Assist with safety equipment setup and cleanup, as well as collaborate with management to develop and enforce safety policies.
- Identify risks and implement preventive measures to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Conduct post-accident investigations and follow-up actions to prevent future incidents.
- Manage Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims and return-to-work programs to support injured employees.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with health and safety standards, including regular inspections and audits.
- Organize and deliver employee safety training sessions to promote awareness and understanding of workplace hazards.
- Lead monthly safety meetings at all locations to engage employees and reinforce safety best practices.
- Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and first aid supplies inventory to ensure availability and accessibility.
- Handle environmental code reporting and liaison with the Ministry of Environment to ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Occupational Therapy, Human Resources, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is an asset.
- Level 2 First Aid certification required; Level 3 preferred.
- WHIMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection certifications are necessary for this role.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably with WorkSafeBC experience.
- Hands-on first aid experience is a plus.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of machinery, vehicles, and equipment operations to identify potential hazards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office to manage documents and reports.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills to engage employees and lead safety meetings.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain professional boundaries.
- Capable of motivating and leading others in safety practices to create a positive work culture.
- Physically able to meet job demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working at heights.
- Comfortable working near machinery in varying conditions.
