Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada Saskatoon & Region Home Builders' Association Full time

Energy Efficiency Specialist

The Energy Efficiency Specialist is a key role within the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders' Association (SRHBA), focused on developing and implementing energy-efficient practices within the residential construction industry. As part of both the SRHBA team and a broader province-wide team of eight, the successful candidate will support the adoption of tiered energy codes and progression toward net-zero construction. This role is essential in driving SRHBA's member engagement, awareness, education, and training initiatives, contributing directly to the organization's core pillars and business activities.

This role involves a moderate level of autonomy. While decisions regarding specific code compliance or regulatory interpretation may require input from technical experts, the Energy Efficiency Specialist is responsible for ensuring that resources, communications, and programs effectively meet the needs of stakeholders and align with provincial energy efficiency goals.

This position also supports the $4.8 million Code Acceleration Funding (CAF) initiative by developing learning platforms, workshops, and instructional materials, working closely with municipal officials, industry professionals, and government bodies to disseminate critical information related to the National Building Code (NBC), National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB), and related regulations.

This role will collaborate with the Building and Technical Standards (BTS) Branch, which oversees building standards in Saskatchewan, including energy efficiency and construction codes. The Director of Energy Code Implementation is located within BTS and works closely with stakeholders, including SRHBA, to ensure the successful adoption and implementation of energy codes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Development

  • Design and develop resources, guides, and presentations tailored for industry professionals, including builders, architects, engineers, and officials.
  • Utilize instructional design principles to create engaging, easy-to-understand training resources on energy efficiency codes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Energy Code Implementation to ensure alignment with provincial and national energy standards.

2. Program Delivery

  • Lead and deliver workshops, events, webinars, and online courses focused on NBC, NECB, and energy-efficient practices.
  • Tailor learning experiences for various audiences, including contractors, homebuilders, and officials, ensuring they are accessible and engaging.
  • Use immersive technologies to develop interactive modules and facilitate virtual training.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration and Support

  • Engage external stakeholders to support energy efficiency programs and incentives.
  • Guide industry professionals on energy efficiency requirements for new builds and renovations, providing practical support.
  • Partner with post-secondary institutions to promote and support skilled trades development within residential construction.
  • Act as a liaison between SRHBA, BTS, and other stakeholders, gathering feedback to improve training programs.

4. Energy Program Consulting

  • Support energy efficiency initiatives within the BTS branch, focusing on program implementation.
  • Contribute to special CAF projects, helping to promote energy-efficient practices and ensure code compliance.
  • Assist in creating and updating technical guides and resources to enhance understanding of energy efficiency codes.

5. Additional SRHBA Duties

  • Support SRHBA's regular activities, driving member engagement and awareness through core business initiatives, events, and member programs.

Requirements

  • Instructional Design & Program Development: Experience in developing engaging programs and resources, especially for adult learners, with the ability to simplify complex topics like building codes and energy standards.
  • Project Management: Proven experience managing multiple projects, coordinating with staff, and overseeing timelines for program delivery.
  • Energy Efficiency Knowledge: Foundational knowledge of energy efficiency standards in building construction, with the ability to communicate and teach these standards effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong skills in building collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including municipal officials, architects, contractors, and associations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities; skilled in creating and presenting clear, accessible guides and training materials for non-experts.
