Job Summary

SGS is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join our team in a laboratory setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out various routine testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sample reception, identification, preparation, dilutions, and analysis, including batch Quality Control using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Ensuring samples are accurately and efficiently logged into LIMS.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of LIMS and ensuring samples are catalogued and stored in an organized manner.
  • Assisting laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving samples, as well as responsible for sample disposal or return to clients.
  • Calibration and setup of laboratory equipment prior to analysis, maintaining and recording equipment calibrations.
  • Preparation of standards and reagents.
  • Interpreting and evaluating results.
  • Monitoring equipment maintenance and laboratory supplies, and reporting discrepancies to the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • A post-secondary education in a Science-related program (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science) is a strong asset.
  • Experience is an asset.
  • Good hand-eye coordination when handling samples and lab equipment.
  • Comfortable with numerals to monitor data on a computer screen.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate, and timely manner.
  • Able to work well under pressure during high workloads and balance conflicting demands.
  • Proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work a rotating schedule - days, afternoons, and evenings.
