The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated and caring individual to join our team as a Sunday Nursery Caregiver Assistant. This part-time position offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families in our community.

About the Role

As a Sunday Nursery Caregiver Assistant, you will provide high-quality care and supervision for children aged 3 and under while their parents participate in our worship service. You will be responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our youngest members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate empathy and care for children and families, providing individualized attention and support as needed.
  • Contribute to the spiritual development of children through interactive play, storytelling, and other activities that promote faith and values.
  • Provide direction and guidance to nursery volunteers, ensuring a seamless and effective team effort.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, adhering to health and safety protocols and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, responding to their needs and concerns, and maintaining accurate records of child attendance and vital information.
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere that respects the diversity of our community, promoting inclusivity and social responsibility.
  • Assist with risk management and emergency preparedness, including first aid and incident reporting.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; ECE certificate an asset.
  • Valid First Aid certification or willingness to obtain; prior experience in childcare essential.
  • Prior experience working with children with special needs an asset.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively with others.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position (approximately 3 hours/week) requiring flexibility and adaptability. The successful candidate must be able to work in a dynamic environment, managing the needs of multiple children simultaneously, and handling unexpected situations with ease.

Compensation
