Job Title: Part Time Childcare Assistant

At The Salvation Army, we are seeking a dedicated and caring individual to join our team as a Part Time Childcare Assistant. This role is responsible for providing high-quality childcare to children aged 3 and under on Sunday mornings while their parents participate in the worship service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide a nurturing environment that promotes the spiritual development of children through a well-rounded program with approved curriculum.
  • Contribute to the effective management of the nursery area, ensuring a clean and safe environment for children.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, ensuring a smooth and efficient check-in and check-out process.
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of the nursery area, including the disposal of hazardous items and the sanitizing of toys.
  • Support the spiritual development of children through prayer, storytelling, and other activities.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the smooth operation of the nursery.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
  • This is a permanent part-time position based on 3 hours per week every Sunday.
  • Exposure to dirty diapers and communicable diseases is possible.
  • Verbal abuse may occur.
  • Supporting and guiding children's behavior and emotions is a key aspect of this role.
  • Noisy environments are common in this role.
  • Lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance may be required.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Completion of high school diploma is required.
  • A valid First Aid certificate is necessary, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Completion of a childcare training course would be an asset.
  • An Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate is also an asset.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Up to one year of prior experience in childcare is required.
  • Prior experience providing childcare for children with neurodiversity is an asset.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • The successful candidate will need to complete The Salvation Army's Praesidium Abuse Training, Health & Safety training, and update annually.
  • An internal abuse registry check will be required.
  • The ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully is necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
