About the Role


The Coordinator, Patient Transportation is a key position within the Interior Health Authority, responsible for arranging transfers that meet the care needs of patients and the operational requirements of our facilities.



Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient transfers between health authority facilities, working in a call-centre environment to arrange on-time delivery of ground and air transportation resources
  • Communicate with clinical staff, transportation providers, and bed coordinating agencies to facilitate patient flow through the healthcare continuum in a cost-effective manner
  • Provides transportation resources that match the care requirements of patients, coordinates transfer activity to facilitate on-time delivery of patient care, and optimizes patient flow through the healthcare continuum
  • Obtains patient care information from clinical staff and electronic resources, and inputs this data into the PTO software program for quality assurance and invoice verification
  • Uses a customer-relations approach to match the most appropriate transportation resource to the patient's clinical needs
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities, including auditing patient transfer activities, identifying opportunities for program improvement, and reporting and investigating incidents and complaints


Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program in direct patient care, with eligibility for licensure in a professional registering body (e.g. Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Primary Care Paramedic, RN, LPN)
  • Three years recent related experience, including coordination of inter-facility patient transfers, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate safe and cost-effective patient transportation services
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and problem-solve
  • Ability to adapt and implement ongoing change and quality improvement initiatives
