Position Summary
A full-time opportunity for a Psychiatrist in our inpatient program starting July 2024. The Women's Trauma & Concurrent program is a groundbreaking initiative offering intensive treatment tailored specifically for women with complex trauma. This program further integrates care for co-occurring substance use disorders, providing a comprehensive approach to treatment. This position is within our elective Homewood Specialized Services, delivering evidence-based treatments and superior treatment outcomes. The program is delivered on-site at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, in a collaborative manner, with a supportive interdisciplinary team. In this role, you will be responsible for the psychiatric care of patients as they engage in their recovery journey.
Program Highlights:
- Nine-week intensive inpatient program addressing traumatic stress injuries, including PTSD, with or without concurrent substance use disorders.
- Gender-specific environment fostering safety and connection among co-patients.
- Specialized treatment led by an experienced clinical team, including assessment, stabilization, skills development, trauma processing using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and discharge planning.
- Weekly 1:1 physician sessions and regular 1:1 sessions with a therapist.
- Group programming featuring dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), substance use recovery processing, and relapse prevention.
- Holistic care approach addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of healing.
Responsibilities:
- Clinically responsible for assigned patients, including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring, referral, daily care, and discharge.
- Provide ongoing supervision and management of care, including weekly individual assessments with the patient.
- Collaborate with other physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals in providing optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team.
- Complete documentation, including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes, and discharge summary.
Requirements:
- Specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College.
- Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders.
- Interest in working with complex and comorbid disorders, as well as ongoing learning and teaching to enhance patient care.
