About the Role

VIA Rail is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our passengers, employees, and property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enforce laws and regulations related to the protection of property and people on VIA Rail property
  • Patrol assigned areas, including stations and trains, to prevent and detect crime
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide initial response to priority calls for service
  • Assist other officers and first responders as needed
  • Conduct minor investigations and assist other departments and regional police as required
  • Build and maintain partnerships with law enforcement and intelligence agencies
  • Liaise with government regulatory agencies and other transportation agencies and associations
  • Develop and maintain harmonious relations with internal and external stakeholders, including businesses, schools, community groups, and emergency services
Requirements
  • Graduated from a recognized Canadian police college or academy
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • At least 5 years of experience as a police officer in an accredited Canadian police force
  • Pass a thorough background check and obtain a federal attestation of personnel security, secret status
  • Meet medical and physical aptitude standards for police officers
  • Hold a valid permit to drive an emergency vehicle in the province of employment
  • Willing to travel and work variable shifts
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both official languages
