What is the opportunity?

As a Senior Software Development Lead at Royal Bank of Canada, you will be responsible for leading a team of software developers in the design, development, and implementation of key parts of the Banking Technology platform. You will work closely with the Associate Director, BPM Workflow and Automation, to ensure the successful delivery of projects and the growth of the team.

What will you do?

  • Lead and mentor a team of software developers, ensuring their professional growth and development.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
  • Provide solutions or recommendations on complicated technology issues for application development and implementation.
  • Contribute directly by designing, implementing, and overseeing the development and implementation of multiple, complex, organization-wide applications.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define project scope, priorities, and timelines.
  • Ensure adherence to software development standards, methodologies, and best practices by conducting code review and other means.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, UX, and QA to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and technology adoption.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the development teams.
  • Manage project budgets and resources effectively.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, or a related field or role.
  • 7+ years in Java development, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior developer role.
  • Strong knowledge of Java EE, Spring, Hibernate, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Strong experience in developing and maintaining ETL processes.
  • Extensive experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring development teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on complex projects.

Nice-to-have

  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in the capital markets middle office, OTC derivatives, or back-office settlement and clearing services space.
  • Experience with Python and related frameworks is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with QE and QA Automation.
  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure cloud services.
