Financial Reporting and Analysis
The Financial Analyst will support activities related to financial reporting and management accounting processes for a division within ATS Automation. This role will be responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial reports, providing high-quality financial analysis, and maintaining adequate process controls over financial ledgers.
Accounting Responsibilities
- Prepare month-end journal entries and reconciliations, analyzing variances between actuals, forecasted, and planned results.
- Perform other accounting duties in all areas of the full cycle accounting processes, including accounts receivable, cash management, capital assets, accruals, cost of goods sold, selling and admin expenses, and taxes.
- Responsible for the monthly reconciliation of any balance sheet accounts associated with the business unit.
- Ensure financial reporting is in accordance with IFRS.
- Prepare audit working papers on a quarterly basis, ensuring all accounts are reconciled.
- Develop and/or prepare specific financial analysis as assigned by the Director, Finance.
- Perform intercompany reconciliations and reporting, assist with other monthly Corporate reporting.
- Assist with cash forecasting and forecasting foreign cash flows for determination of hedge settlement.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Support the annual planning process by preparing budget schedules and summary reports.
- Contribute to the improvement of existing reporting and the design and development of new reporting to improve the quality of information available to senior management.
- Cross-train on other finance team tasks to ensure critical financial processes are covered during periods of vacation or other absences.
Internal Control, Policies, and Procedures
- Maintain accounting records in a timely, accurate, and complete manner.
- Ensure policies and procedures are adhered to in a consistent manner within the division, and financial reporting standards are applied consistently. Regularly review policies and procedures with the Controller to develop an ATS Automation best practice approach for financial management.
- Ensure the safeguarding of company assets.
Operational Support
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for management of the business unit.
- Analyze various profit streams and identify key opportunities.
- Provide early warning of risks along with opportunities to allow accurate and timely information for business decision-making, including review and investigation of monthly cost variances.
- Work with the Controller and other leadership team members to identify cost savings opportunities.
- Maintain the financial components of the ERP systems, ensuring data integrity. Provide subject matter expert support to other teams outside of finance related to the financial components of the ERP.
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives with respect to finance processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A university degree or college diploma in business and/or accounting, or equivalent business experience is required.
- Hold or be working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA).
- A minimum of 3-5 years of accounting analytical experience is preferred. The individual must have the ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with people at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in written form.
- Advanced knowledge of an ERP system (preferably JD Edwards) and advanced knowledge of Excel is required.
- The ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance in a team-oriented work environment is mandatory.
- Strong analytical, financial reporting, and accounting skills, as well as a continuous improvement mindset, are key.
- The person must be hands-on, detail-oriented, and able to consistently meet deadlines, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and have a willingness to get their hands dirty and resolve complex issues.
