About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at The Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Animal Health Laboratory, you will be responsible for conducting laboratory testing and analysis in various sections, including Serology, Parasitology, Bacteriology, and Histology.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist, your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting serological tests, including avian ELISA, to diagnose animal diseases.
  • Performing bacteriological tests to identify and isolate pathogens.
  • Collecting and processing samples from animals, including sera, tissues, feces, milk, urine, and environmental samples.
  • Assisting the Veterinary Pathologist in reaching a diagnosis by performing routine and specialized tests.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A graduate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and eligibility for licensing in the Province of Nova Scotia (NSCMLT).
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of general laboratory techniques, including laboratory instrumentation, sterile/aseptic technique, and safe work practices.
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) protocols.
  • Ability to prioritize work and organize workload for maximum efficiency.
