Job Description

We are seeking an Indigenous Support Worker for Cultural Healing to join our team at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto.

About the Role

This part-time position is located in Toronto and will work 14 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays from 11AM-7PM. The estimated salary for this role is $32,113 - $51,258 per year, based on the location and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide culturally appropriate support to Indigenous women with young children who are struggling with addiction issues and mental health challenges related to complex trauma and poverty.
  2. Work collaboratively with the Mdewgaan Lodge clinical team to ensure that programs include traditional healing practices and land-based cultural programming.
  3. Assist residents in maintaining their cultural goals while at the Mdewgaan Lodge.
  4. Ensure that equipment, inventory, and supplies are maintained and protected.
  5. Represent Native Child and Family Services of Toronto at community level.
Requirements
  • High school diploma (GED) or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in a supportive role within the Indigenous community.
  • Must have Indigenous lived experience and strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
  • Knowledge of resources available for Indigenous peoples related to homelessness, addictions, and mental health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; initiative, and respect for confidentiality.
