About the Role

The Department of Public Works is seeking a skilled individual to fulfill the role of Baseperson I, responsible for effective communication within a geographic area of the province. This position ensures the efficient dispatch of human, material, and equipment resources related to snow and ice control activities and highway maintenance/operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor weather conditions and update the electronic Road Condition Reporting System (511) regularly.
  • Record daily log details of winter maintenance activities, including equipment status, operator hours, and weather conditions.
  • Dispatch equipment operators to proper plow routes and provide information via radio contact and AVL technology.
  • Act as a key contact for Supervisors, reporting equipment breakdowns and initiating emergency response procedures as needed.
Requirements
  • Some High School and two (2) years of related experience in a dispatch or customer service environment.
  • Experience with heavy equipment and construction, including TMR/operational radio systems.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, including Windows, internet, and word processing software.
