The University of Alberta Hospital is a leading clinical, research, and teaching hospital, providing exceptional care to over 700,000 patients annually. As a Speech Pathologist II, you will be part of the centralized Allied Health Program, supporting patients in the neuroscience service area. Our hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services. You will have the opportunity to work with a collaborative team, providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will be essential in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff.
Job Description:As a Speech Pathologist II, you will be responsible for providing clinical professional practice, independently and as part of a collaborative team. You will participate in the planning, coordination, and delivery of rehabilitation services, working with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals, and other partners. Your expertise will inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development. You will use your clinical skills to assess and treat patients with dysphagia and communication disorders, prioritizing a mixed caseload and utilizing instrumental dysphagia assessments (VFSS) as required.
Required Qualifications:- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated critical thinking, planning, and organizational skills
- Adult acute care hospital care experience, with the ability to effectively prioritize a mixed caseload of dysphagia and communication disorders
- Experience with complex medical patient populations (end of life, chronic disease management, post ICU, dementia, emergency department)
- Instrumental assessment (VFSS) competence
