Parts and Components Validation Engineer

The Services Engineering function is a key part of Services NAM (Americas) and provides engineering expertise and technical solutions to the various Business Units (BU) of Services. We support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) sites, as well as lead the design efforts for Asset Life Management (modernization, upgrades, overhauls of rail vehicles) and support the Parts Obsolescence BU.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all parts proposals meet customer specifications in form, fit, and function, railway safety, reliability, industrial norms, and standards.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with project specifications and requirements relating to electrical design tasks associated with parts requested.
  • Prepare electrical and interface schematics, drawings, and documentation of assigned systems and meet deliverable schedules.
  • Maintain knowledge of rail and electrical-electronic norms and standards such as FRA, AAR, IEEE, ANSI, etc.
  • Provide electrical drawings, bills of material, detailed work scope, assembly, and testing instructions for parts, equipment, and printed circuit boards as needed.
  • Work on bids proposals to repair, redesign, and overhaul electrical equipment, printed circuit boards, and in general electrical and electronics parts used in the rail industry.
  • Provide instructions to drafters and designers for the development and preparation of schematics, layouts, assembly, and detail drawings.
  • Provide customer technical support as needed.
  • Lead Design Reviews and Gate Reviews for electrical parts.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams with Customers, Rolling Stock Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Auditors, Platform (Tenders, Reference Library, REX), Quality, Validation, and Testing.
Requirements
  • More than 10 years of experience in rail industry standards and design or with similar industry products such as transportation vehicles, and/or high-low voltage equipment, and discrete electronic components.
  • More than 5 years of experience in validation process and different contracts.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical/electronics design tools, MS Office, SAP, GSI, and Maximo (other ERP tools).
  • Knowledge of Alstom Design for Quality processes.
