Educational Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities
- Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs
- Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other exceptional needs
- Perform yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties as required
- Modify programs and support learning for students with varying needs
- Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
- Minimum 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children
- Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
- Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- DSW preferred
- Autism experience
- Assistive Technology
- Catheterization (training will be provided)
- Behaviour Modification
- Behaviour Management Systems
- NVCI required
- Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience supporting deaf/blind students
- PIC Symbols
- Experience programming for autistic students
- Crisis Intervention
- Computer Skills
- CPR and First Aid
- Prepared to assist with toileting/lifting
- Pool duties - direct supervision in swimming program required
- Experience with standing frames, AFOs (braces), Hoyer Lift, Communication aides i.e., touch talkers
