About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic leadership and expert medical advice to the Ministry of Health and senior government officials. You will play a pivotal role in shaping public health policies, driving evidence-based decision-making, and fostering collaboration across various health sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert medical leadership and strategic advice on public health issues to the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) and senior ministry officials.
  • Lead the strategic application of public health science, research, and business intelligence to support policy and long-term planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with public health partners, including Public Health Ontario, Medical Officers of Health, and other government agencies, to facilitate system-wide public health planning, integration, and alignment.
  • Promote the use of scientific evidence and research in public health policy and programs.
  • Act as a key leader in public health emergencies, providing guidance and direction to ensure effective response and recovery.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in medicine from a university of recognized standing and a Fellowship in Community Medicine (Public Health and Preventive Medicine) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • A license to practice medicine in Ontario, with a minimum of five years' experience as a practicing public health physician.
  • Superior leadership and management skills to provide direction and leadership to the public health system and act as a mentor to division colleagues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence-informed practice, knowledge translation, and the application of research in practice to support policy decision-making.
  • Ability to analyze strategic issues to form an understanding of risk assessment and management to provide proactive assessment, management, and communications of major health issues.
