Job Description:

We are looking for a hands-on lawyer with strong business acumen to provide legal advice on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal guidance to various business units within the company, managing the company's litigation function, and overseeing the work of outside counsel.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance to various business units within the company on a range of issues and matters.
  • Manage the company's litigation function, with the assistance of an in-house litigation paralegal and external counsel as needed.
  • Effectively manage and oversee the work of outside counsel to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • A law degree from a Canadian law school.
  • Membership in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • At least 8 years of combined, relevant experience at law firms or in-house legal departments, with deep and practical knowledge and expertise in financial services.
  • Employment law and/or litigation experience are significant assets.
  • Familiarity with technology product launches and legal aspects of product development, translating legal advice into actionable guidance for teams.
  • Experience and ability to assess legal risks, evaluate and solve problems, prioritize multiple high-profile projects, and maintain a diligent, organized, and professional demeanor under pressure.
  • A proactive, flexible, positive and team-oriented attitude and strong integrity, ethics, and judgment.
  • Ability to effectively balance legal risk mitigation against key business objectives and risks.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
