Job Summary:

The Academic Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating, organizing, and maintaining the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy labs. This includes liaising with allied health teams and agency placements to coordinate and facilitate student placements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate an effective means of reinforcing lab skills utilizing a variety of resources
  • Demonstrate and facilitate the practice of skills in accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and/or the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Standards
  • Provide feedback to support successful skill development and use pre-developed skill checklists and the application of principles and theory, monitoring the student's ability to successfully perform the skill prior to the practical exams
  • Consult with faculty and students to plan activities to meet individual student learning needs
  • Observe and support the development of student lab skills
  • Schedule practice sessions complete with scenarios, equipment, supplies, reference books, and lab learning materials
  • Work in collaboration with faculty to ensure they are aware of the existing equipment and supplies available to deliver their content
  • Organize and implement in-service training/orientation for students, FT and NFT faculty, and others on the use of equipment in the lab
  • Organize lab for Open House Days/Events
  • Purchase new equipment in consultation with the Associate Dean
  • Purchase supplies for teaching/demonstration purposes
  • Update resources available in the lab
  • Monitor, track, and review student placements/fieldwork experiences (hours, discipline, general information) using a database to ensure program meets accreditation standards related to placement/fieldwork
  • Assign placement advisors to each student placement assignment
  • Monitor and confirm students' Clinical Preparedness Permit (CPP) compliance and communicate with students who are non-compliant
  • Lead OTA and PTA clinical placement team meetings
  • Orientate new part-time independent contract occupational therapists, occupational therapist assistants (hired for placements), and placement monitors
  • Document and report on education/fieldwork experiences as part of the program accreditation team

Qualifications:

  • Successfully completed a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy
  • Registered and in good standing with the Regulatory College of Occupational Therapists or College Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Five years' experience as a registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist
  • Experience in training and demonstrating skills to others
  • Computer skills using the MS Office Suite
  • Experience tracking and maintaining data and records within a computerized database
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information in a clear concise manner
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
  • Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Awareness of health and safety rules and regulations
  • Proven analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification would be beneficial
