About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at Shannex Incorporated. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our residents, helping them to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and interpret standardized and non-standardized tests and evaluations to assess residents with occupational therapy-related concerns.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical records, observation, and referral, conferring with interdisciplinary staff in regard to an overall treatment plan for residents.
- Evaluate the progress of residents in relation to occupational therapy treatment provided through the use of tests and observation, conferring with nursing staff and physicians in regard to the effectiveness of treatment.
- Prepare progress reports, funding requests, and statistical reports relating to occupational therapy treatment programs and resident needs, maintaining treatment records as required.
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team, giving evaluation and progress reports on residents. Design and produce adaptive equipment, utensils, splints, or other orthotic devices as needed for use by residents, instructing residents and staff in the use of the equipment.
- Coordinate the management of facility equipment, contacting suppliers for service and maintenance of wheelchairs, geri chairs, and power wheelchairs.
- Provide staff training on ergonomics, seating assessment, skin integrity, equipment, and other related topics as required.
About You
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about delivering high-quality care to our residents. You will bring:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy, current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Occupational Therapists.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational therapy, anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology as related to the practice of occupational therapy, the use of adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, positioning chairs, utensils, and splints, and knowledge of the potential hazards associated with equipment, tools, and materials used in occupational therapy.
- Previous experience in working in nursing homes or healthcare environments is an asset.
- A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services, and care.
