About the Opportunity

The Occupational Therapist plays a vital role in the Nova Scotia Health Authority, working under the supervision of the Health Services Manager. This position requires collaboration with clients, caregivers, and families to facilitate, restore, and maintain patients' optimal level of function in areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services while working within the hospital, client's home, and/or community.
  • Establish individualized treatment plans and goals in collaboration with clients, and independently manage a busy caseload.
  • Utilize clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues on a daily basis.
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers.
  • Contribute to the clinical education of occupational therapy students and related health disciplines.
  • Adhere to Nova Scotia Health policies and procedures, as well as professional standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.
About You

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Graduation from a Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) recognized School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS).
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification in CPR.
  • BLS-C (HCP) Certification.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Counselling skills.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting both individual and group treatment.
  • Ability to reach a joint formulation with the client and family.
  • Familiarity with various psychotherapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution focused therapy, and/or motivational interviewing.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organization.
  • Awareness of local community resources and agencies.
  • Self-directed practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting functional assessments and writing reports.
  • Competencies in other languages, with French being an asset.
Hours
  • Permanent full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly.
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive hourly rate of $33.97 - $42.89, as well as eligibility for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
