About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will play a vital role in supporting students with exceptional needs and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement special programs and academic support initiatives
  • Participate in pool programs, physiotherapy exercises, and other activities to promote student well-being and success
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues
  • Perform yard duties, lifting, toileting, and other tasks as required
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with students, staff, and families
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant Autism and/or Learning Disabilities experience
  • Experience working with Intermediate students in Grades 7 & 8
  • Experience working with high school-aged students identified with Learning Difficulties
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software
