Psychiatrist - Women's Trauma & Concurrent Program (12-month Locum - Parental Leave) - Mental Health Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatrist to join our team at Homewood Health as a Mental Health Specialist in our Women's Trauma & Concurrent Program. This is a 12-month locum position to support a colleague on parental leave.
Key Responsibilities- Provide psychiatric care to patients in our intensive inpatient program addressing traumatic stress injuries, including PTSD, with or without concurrent substance use disorders.
- Collaborate with an experienced clinical team to deliver specialized treatment, including assessment, stabilization, skills development, trauma processing using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and discharge planning.
- Conduct weekly 1:1 physician sessions and regular 1:1 sessions with a therapist to support patient care.
- Participate in group programming featuring dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), substance use recovery processing and relapse prevention, as required.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive treatment plan for assigned patients, including diagnosis, treatment planning, monitoring, referral, daily care, and discharge.
- Collaborate with other physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team.
- Complete documentation, including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes, and comprehensive discharge summary.
- Provide clinical guidance to the program and admitting department for appropriate and timely referrals and admissions.
- Ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained.
- Specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
- Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferred.
- Interest in working with complex and comorbid disorders, as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient care.
- Adept at creating an environment that supports team spirit and collaboration across the organization.
- Strong ability to create exceptional relationships with clients, patients, customers, and colleagues.
- Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis, and complex problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly developed organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital.
- Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and the principles of trauma-informed care are welcomed assets.
