Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fitter Welder 2 to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for fabricating and welding pressure piping and vessel systems used on our gas transmission and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret engineering drawings and spool sheets to lay out and fabricate components, and perform pressure testing to determine weld and joint integrity.
  • Fabricate non-pressure components and install pressure controlling devices, instrumentation, and control lines in prefabricated regulator vaults or similar assemblies.
  • Weld on transmission and distribution systems within the scope of your certificate of competency, including hot taps, fire welds, and leak repair welds.
  • Qualify and re-qualify as prescribed by the Code for Welders welding on piping to operate at hoop stresses of less than 20% of the specified minimum yield strength.
Requirements
  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate of Qualification from the Industry Training Authority of BC (or equivalent from a recognized provincial training authority). Minimum Level 'B'.
  • 5 years' experience welding pressure piping systems or pipeline welding.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driving License.
  • Safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis.
  • Experience in pipefitting and general fabrication.
  • Ability to perform all operations in the shop necessary to fabricate pressure piping and vessel systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and spool sheets, and perform pressure testing.
  • Ability to fabricate non-pressure components and install pressure controlling devices.
  • Field pipeline welding experience, including hot tap welds, fire welds, and leak repair welds.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work alone with high quality performance.
  • Initiative and sense of responsibility.
  • CWB Structural Welding Tickets for SMAW & GMAW considered an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Position is physically demanding, requiring considerable bending and lifting.
  • Exposed to inclement weather.
