Intermediate Environmental Scientist/Technologist Job Description

We are seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist/Technologist to join our Assessment, Remediation, Reclamation and Monitoring (ARRM) team in Edmonton, Alberta.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities including:

  • Actively participating in maintaining Matrix's strong safety culture
  • Completing pre-field planning for projects, including safety planning, contractor coordination, and client or landowner communication
  • Reviewing field data and providing initial interpretations to make field-related decisions
  • Working with senior technical accountables to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet our clients' unique project needs
  • Learning from and assisting senior technical accountables in the development of methods, techniques, documents, and tools
  • Managing project-related timelines and budgets
  • Completing moderate to complex reports, Phase 2 ESA reports, remediation reports, groundwater monitoring reports, and risk management plans
  • Preparing technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, and cost estimates
  • Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals across Matrix, including engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, ecologists, and remediation/reclamation specialists
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 3 to 5 years of direct field and/or project management experience in assessment, remediation, and monitoring for Oil and Gas clients (other industries may also be considered), preferably within a consulting environment
  • A degree or technical diploma in environmental science, geology, agriculture, hydrogeology, or engineering
  • Eligibility for registration in, or maintaining a good standing in, a professional organization
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to junior environmental staff with respect to routine environmental assessment work and groundwater monitoring
  • Strong written communication skills and previous experience writing technical reports
  • A valid and clean driver's license with no restrictions
